ONE LAST DOLLAR
A downloadable game
Join The Discord Server To Playtest Today!
One Last Dollar is a Rooted In Trophy game about doing dangerous jobs to make ends meet during a strange version of the Great Depression. Here, there are spirits, devils, monsters… Even the Grim Reaper is someone you could exchange words with. And while miracles don’t happen every day, they certainly happen on a weekly basis.
You play a group of Drifters who lost everything and now have become desperate people who’ll do anything for anyone to keep themselves fed and maybe, if they’re lucky, find a way out of these hard times.
Get The One-Shot Rules For Free!
That's right, by just scrolling down to the DEMO section, you gain instant access to great features such as:
- PRE-MADE CHARACTERS: Jump in and play a session right now as one of five Drifters in pre-made character sheets for online and in-person play!
- INNOVATIVE NEW GEAR RULES: Unlike in other Rooted in Trophy systems, weapons are free... so long as they're cheap. Anyone can get hold of a pitchfork or a kitchen knife, but if you want a snub-nosed revolver, chloroform, or a tailored outfit it's gonna cost you...
- A MORE VERSATILE HUNT TOKEN: In addition to finding Loot, you can also spend Prep Tokens to resupply, find hidden paths, discover a Foe's weak point, make major progress towards achieving your dream, or even defeat a foe in one fell swoop!
- THE NEXT EVOLUTION OF TROPHY ROLLS: New takes on The Hunt Roll, The Risk Roll, and The Combat Roll (which, in this system, permits non-combat solutions), along with the brand new addition of The Mend Roll, which allows you to attempt to fix Conditions during a mission, if you're willing to accept the price...
- DEATH: What happens when the Reaper comes for you? What deals can you make? And what happens if you don't make any deals at all?
- A GUIDE TO JOBS & FOES: A helpful breakdown outlining what they are, how they work, and, most importantly, how you can make your own...
- BLANK JOB TEMPLATES: Want to write your own Job right now? Enjoy a blank template that will make it quick and easy to make a good looking Job right now!
In addition, you gain access to the following starter Job:
- THE BEAST OF BAXTER'S SAWMILL: A group of loggers have gone missing up the river and they certainly aren't the first. You're sent to hunt and kill whatever it was that took them, but, more importantly, bring back the lumber to the sawmill without delay.
...Or Invest Now, To Get Bonus Content!
Your generous investment will support me as I continue to develop new material for One Last Dollar and add to the bonus content that investors like you will receive.
To start with, every investor will recieve:
- CHARACTER CREATION RULES: Pre-gen characters be damned! Create your own custom Drifter from start to finish with blank character sheets and a variety of tools including...
- RANDOM NAME TABLES: Having trouble coming up with character names that fit into this setting and time period? Want names that not only sound cool, but connect you to existing NPCs in the Heartland? Look no further!
- A COMPLETE LIST OF TRADES & OLD CAREERS: Use these to find out who your Drifter was... and what they've become, with an even greater (and weirder) variety of Drifters, including The Agitator, The Doomed Physicist, and The Occultist.
- A BUCKETFUL OF DREAMS: With this table of 36 different Dreams, find out what gets your Drifter out of bed in the morning... and what they're willing to die for.
- DOWNTIME ACTIONS: Want to put your money not only towards fixing yourself and your gear, but also improving yourself? Also, find out what the Tithe and Invest downtime actions do!
- COOL DICE: Want digital dice that can be easily uploaded into Roll20 as a Rollable Table? These light and dark dice come in Skull and Non-Skull Variants!
You also gain access to the following additional Jobs (with more to be added as development progresses):
- DEVIL AT THE CROSSROADS: A Devil has been travelling from town to town, granting wishes and leaving chaos in his wake. At a town where all water has turned to wine, a nun asks you to do something for her: Track down and kill the Devil.
- THE EASTERN FLIER: A well-dressed railway man tells you that anyone with a mask and a knife can make a fortune robbing folks on The Eastern Flier. He'll tell you where on the railway to wait and when to wait there... and all you have to do is deliver him the mysterious wooden box that's onboard.
- THE CURSE OF WORMWOOD MINE (New!): Thirty years ago, something bad happened in Wormwood. The local miners massacred their employers, then buried themselves en masse in a cave-in deep within the mine. Today, investment banker Herman Cruz, having aquired the mineral rights of Wormwood for a steal, has hired you to reassure him that The Curse the locals speak of is baseless superstition and his renovations may continue unabated.
Future Additions
As investment continues, even more features will be added, such as:
- MORE AND MORE JOBS: Uncover what doomed the Wormwood Coal Mine, help the Squalor Hill Factory Union by handling strikebreakers, and so much more...
- MORE ART, MORE WRITING: I desperately want to pay cool artists and writers to create stuff for this weird setting. Help put money in their pockets!
- CHEAT SHEETS: No more will you be flicking through pages and pages of rules to find out what a Breadcrumb is! In a few handy pages, you'll have everything you need to run a game.
- AN ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF ENEMIES: A list of pre-made Foes that can be thrown in whenever you need a frisson of danger...
- A PLETHORA OF LOOT: All the valuables you could ever want and more! Each of them ready to be sprinkled into a scene when even your GM doesn't know what you'll find...
- TRAVELLER'S GUIDE TO THE HEARTLAND: Gain access to a full travel supplement, not only outlining how you get from place to place, but also a list of the best places to enjoy your Downtime.
- A PHYSICAL VERSION: I have no idea how to do book printing or international shipping, but I understand that money is somehow involved.
(Note: This list of additions is purely speculative and not final, but close to what I want to do.)
